More Cafe Britt

Rosario shows a branch with both green (immature) and ripe coffee berries. Jose Antonio shows how to tie a basket around his waist in order to have both hands free to pick coffee berries. Pickers enjoy squeezing the seed out of the berrie and sucking the juice off it before spitting the seed out. Don´t suck on too many of the seeds (beans) because the juice is also a laxative. Just what I DON`T need!

These two pics show the growth process of the coffee plant. The one of the right at the top are seeds covered by banana leaves to keep the seeds at the right temp and moisture level. Below them are the seedlings. The second pic shows two different growth stages. It is a full year before the coffee bush starts producing berries. Costa Rica grows only Arabica coffee ( Remember Juan Valdez`s "eets the reechest kind!"
