Finally arrived!
Hi Everyone! I had Harold worried because I couldn´t contact him until today. But we had a nice talk on the phone and all is well. Let me begin with arriving. I had a 6 hour delay in Miami and didn´t get in to Costa Rica until 11 p.m. Very muggy but beautiful and I arrived at my host family, ór "Tico Familia" as it is known here. The woman I am staying with is very genteel, friendly, highly educated. Her name is Eliet. We went to mass (misa) on Sunday and to the cemetary to visit her mother´s tomb and then to a Costa Rican wake for a woman who died suddenly at age 42. Interesting. The whole block is made up of relatives. Eliet's house is a complex of four houses, hers, her sisters, her brothers, and, I believe, a cousin. The food is fantastic and Eliet is a fantastic cook. The food primarily consists of beans and rice, much salad with huge avocados (aguacaste) and tons of huge, wonderful fruit -- pineapple (pina), mango, tamarindo, papaya, orange, banana, etc. I was very tired on Sunday so took a 2 hour nap in the afternoon and went to bed at 8 p.m. Sunday we had a huge rain, more like a deluge. The water here is spring water and very pure but doesn´t always flow. No water on Monday, but water today! I will close and make a separate post for each day. I can´t download pics but am trying to get it resolved. Love to all. Mimi
